Password — how to use

Open a PDF — drop it anywhere on the page, or click the dashed box. One file at a time. "Choose another PDF" starts again with a different file.

A PDF with a password — type the password it opens with now. Pick "Remove the password" (the copy opens without one) or "Change it" (type the new password twice). Then press the button.

A PDF without a password — type a new password twice, then press "Add password". Keep it safe: if it is lost, nobody can open the copy, not even this site.

Blocks — some PDFs block printing, copying or changes. This tool does not change that: the copy keeps the same blocks.

Download — the copy is made when you press the button, and checked: it must open with the new password (or without one). Then "Download PDF" saves it as name-unlocked.pdf or name-locked.pdf. The new password uses AES-256, the strongest kind a PDF has.

What stays — pages, text, links, bookmarks and form fields stay as they are. A digital signature is not valid in the copy. An archive (PDF/A) file becomes a normal PDF when it gets a password.
