Add PDFs — drop them anywhere on the page, or click the dashed box. You can add several at once, and more later. A password-protected file asks for its password.
Keep text sharp (best for most files) — the photos and scans inside get fewer pixels where they have more than the page needs, and photos are stored as JPEG. Text, drawings, fonts, links, bookmarks and form fields stay as they are. High keeps photos at up to 200 dpi, Medium 150, Low 100.
Fit under a size — for upload limits. Each file is made smaller step by step (Keep text sharp High, Medium, Low) until it fits. With the box ticked it goes on with pages as pictures if needed. If a file still does not fit, you get the smallest it could make.
Strongest: pages as pictures — every page becomes one picture: the smallest result for scans. Text can no longer be selected or searched, and links, bookmarks and form fields are not kept. High is 150 dpi, Medium 110, Low 80.
Lossless — nothing on the pages changes. Unused parts are dropped, identical data is kept once, and the file is written compactly. It often saves little.
Results — every file shows its size before and after. "Look" shows a page before and after, side by side, with zoom. ⤓ downloads one file; "Download all (ZIP)" gets them all. A file that would not get smaller is kept as it was. Changing how to compress clears the results.
Good to know — the smaller copy of a file with a password, or with limits on printing or copying, has no password and no limits (a file kept as it was keeps them). In the smaller copy of a digitally signed file the signature is no longer valid: any change to a signed file breaks it.
